Africa Day was marked in Bucharest by various events at the initiative of FOND, the Federation of Romanian Development NGOs and the FDSC, the Foundation for the development of civil society

A seminar on relations between Africa and the EU, and Romania in particular, took place in the morning with the participation of the Ambassador of Algeria, representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Commission and an NGO active in Africa. In attendance, the presence of several African Ambassadors was noted, as well as members of Romanian NGOs, the African diaspora and Romanian students. A cultural evening, with exhibition of photographs and crafts, music and a film screening closed the day with success.

AIDWatch Report 2009-Lighten the load-In a time of crisis, European aid has never been more important

As poor countries face the full impact of the economic crisis, European governments are falling short by nearly €40bn on their aid promises, a new report from CONCORD, the European confederation of development NGOs, reveals.

Justin Kilcullen, President of Concord, said: "History will judge Europe according to its actions now. If Europe fails to act we will be seen as having turned our back on the poorest in their time of need, and missed the opportunity to deliver a genuine EU development legacy. Read more from here.

Black Sea NGO Forum: "Time to Meet"
The aim of this event is to increase the level of dialogue and coordination among NGOs in the wider Black Sea region as well as to strengthen the advocacy capacity of NGOs in the Black Sea region in order to influence development strategies in the region. The forum will not be just another seminar about the Black Sea region, but rather refined interaction between key civic leaders from the region, led and owned by the countries in the region with the support and contribution of the European and Euro-Atlantic community. The forum will focus on creating a pool of concrete projects and on proposing concrete recommendations for regional NGOs and donors in order to increase the number and quality of regional partnerships and projects.
