Africa Day was marked in Bucharest by various events at the initiative of FOND, the Federation of Romanian Development NGOs and the FDSC, the Foundation for the development of civil society
A seminar on relations between Africa and the EU, and Romania in particular, took place in the morning with the participation of the Ambassador of Algeria, representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Commission and an NGO active in Africa. In attendance, the presence of several African Ambassadors was noted, as well as members of Romanian NGOs, the African diaspora and Romanian students. A cultural evening, with exhibition of photographs and crafts, music and a film screening closed the day with success.

As poor countries face the full impact of the economic crisis, European governments are falling short by nearly €40bn on their aid promises, a new report from CONCORD, the European confederation of development NGOs, reveals.
